Loud Dobbs does a good job covering the details of the immigration bill moving through congress. This bill is probably one of the worst pieces of legislation I’ve seen in a while. As usual, the elitists in Washington think that 300 million people’s wills should be directed in whichever way is most politically advantageous.
These provisions are ridiculous.
The United States government should put some effort into enforcing immigration policy as it exists. Border walls put in place in California have proven effective, but opposition from certain individuals in Congress and the States has forced most of the border to be protected by meager, ineffective fences. Amnesty is simply the easiest solution to the problem from the point of view of many beltway insiders.
It’s too much trouble to build a serious border fence, given the uproar it would cause, and it would be just as unpopular to actually deport the illegal immigrants who, by definition, are criminals. Some in Congress don’t even take the idea of nationhood seriously. To these individuals, what does it matter who immigrates and who doesn’t? The easiest solution for all of these lazy layabouts and transnationalists is amnesty. Those immigrants given amnesty would make an instant voting block and makes the chore of enforcing border policy irrelevant. Talk about killing two birds with one stone…
Amnesty is mistake that will seriously alter the political landscape of the United States for years to come. That’s the primary motivation for it; it’s nothing but petty politics, playing for votes with the future of a nation at stake. Should it succeed, President Obama’s margin of victory next election will be enormous.
Politics over ideals and country, that’s the modus operandi in Congress these days.
